After travelling to several countries in 2015, we always knew 2016 was going to involve much less travel due to expecting our first child in May, so took an early holiday and visited the Lake District for a week in January, not as glamorous maybe as some destinations last year, but turned out to be hugely enjoyable despite the snow!
First evening was spent near Ullswater lake, staying at the lovely Macdonald Leeming House. We were only one of three couples staying at the hotel, many put off by reports in the media of widespread flooding in the area, which was clear as we travelled across the county, but not anywhere near enough to warrant staying away, Cumbria is very much open!
We then spent the day travelling across the north of the Lake District, Keswick, Thirlmere, Penrith, Bassenthwaite among others, all stunning and completely devoid of the usual tourist crowd you would expect in the Summer months.
Then it was on to stay at Center Parcs for the rest of the week, I’d never been to one of these resorts before so wasn’t really sure what to expect. Other than getting lost finding my way back to lodge after parking the car it was a very relaxing stay, plenty to do, or not, taking it easy was very welcome, as was the day spent in the very modern Spa!
The snow arrived in Cumbria on our second day, overnight completely transforming the area and thankfully stopped again by the morning, just before the roads became too dangerous to travel on, so we then spent a day touring the Lakes once again, beautiful scenes everywhere we went.
Here is a selection of photographs from the week, more to come soon including several drone shots and some aerial photo spheres.
